Northern Pike

If you're targeting Northern Pike in Litchfield, CT, Bantam Lake, the state's largest natural lake, is your best bet. Pike thrive in its weedy shallows and submerged structure. Spring, just after ice-out, is phenomenal as pike move into the shallows to spawn. Fall is also excellent as they aggressively feed before winter. Large spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and swimbaits worked around weed beds are highly effective. A local tip: focus on the northern end of the lake where there's more vegetation and shallower water. Be aware that Bantam Lake is popular for recreational boating, especially during the summer, so plan your trips for early mornings or weekdays to avoid heavy traffic. Launching is easy at the public boat ramp, but parking can fill up quickly during peak season.
