Northern Pike

Alanson offers some excellent opportunities for Northern Pike fishing, particularly within the Inland Waterway. Burt Lake and Mullett Lake, connected to Crooked Lake, are known for their healthy pike populations. These waters provide plenty of weedy areas and submerged structure where pike like to ambush prey. Early spring, just after ice-out, and late fall are typically the most productive times. In the spring, focus on shallow, weedy bays as pike move in to spawn. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective. In the fall, target deeper water near drop-offs and weed lines with larger lures or dead bait rigs. Public boat launches on Burt and Mullett Lakes provide easy access. Be prepared for some wind on these larger lakes, which can affect boat control. Also, pike in this area can get quite large, so use heavy tackle and a wire leader to avoid being bitten off.
