Northern Pike

Northern pike anglers in the Bad Axe region should explore the shallow, weedy bays and backwaters of Lake Huron. These areas provide excellent habitat for pike, offering plenty of ambush points and food sources. Spring and early summer are prime times to target pike, as they are actively feeding after spawning. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and jerkbaits are all effective lure choices. A practical tip: use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs, as pike have sharp teeth. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and structure, such as fallen trees or weedlines. Access to these areas is available at several public boat launches along the coast. While trophy-sized pike are not common, the area offers consistent action and a chance to catch some respectable fish. Be prepared for aggressive strikes and exciting battles.
