Northern Pike

Northern Pike fishing near Berkley, Michigan, can be productive if you know where to look. While the immediate area may not be a pike hotspot, venturing slightly further to the Clinton River offers some decent opportunities. These toothy predators lurk in the deeper holes and weedy areas of the river, especially near structures like fallen logs and bridge pilings. Spring (April-May) is prime time, as the pike are recovering from the spawn and actively feeding. Fall (October-November) is another excellent period as they bulk up before winter. A great strategy is to use large spinnerbaits or crankbaits to cover water quickly and locate active fish. Another tip is to try fishing with live bait, such as shiners or suckers, under a bobber near weed edges. Be sure to use a steel leader to prevent bite-offs, as pike have razor-sharp teeth. The Clinton River pike population is generally healthy, but be aware of the occasional snag due to the river's structure.
