Northern Pike

Pike fishing around Bingham Farms can be a rewarding experience, particularly in the Clinton River watershed. While not known as a pike mecca, the river and its connected lakes offer pockets of good habitat. Spring, right after ice-out, is an excellent time to target these toothy predators as they become very active. Fall, as water temperatures cool, is another prime window. Look for pike in areas with submerged vegetation, creek mouths, and near any structure that provides ambush points. A steel leader is a must due to their sharp teeth. A practical tip is to explore the quieter, weedy backwaters and canals off the main river channel – these areas often hold surprisingly large pike that are less pressured. Also, be mindful of the current, as pike will often position themselves to take advantage of it. The pike population here consists of fish of varying sizes, so be prepared for anything from a small 'hammer handle' to a trophy-sized specimen.
