Northern Pike

If you're hunting Northern Pike near Brighton, Michigan, look no further than the chain of lakes within the Huron River watershed. These interconnected lakes, including Brighton, Ore, and Whitmore Lake, offer diverse pike habitat. These lakes have ample weed beds, shallow bays, and deeper holes, providing ideal ambush points for these predators. Spring, just after the ice melts, and fall, as the water cools, are the most productive times. Pike are often found near spawning areas in the spring and aggressively feeding before winter. Try trolling large spoons or crankbaits along weed edges or casting jerkbaits in shallow bays. Public access is readily available via boat launches on most of the major lakes. However, be mindful of boat traffic, especially on weekends. The pike in these lakes can reach impressive sizes, with fish over 10 pounds not uncommon. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs.
