Northern Pike

Chasing Northern Pike near Casnovia, Michigan, offers a classic West Michigan freshwater experience. The area's numerous small lakes and the Muskegon River watershed provide ample habitat for these ambush predators. Spring, just after ice-out, is prime time, as pike move into shallow bays and weedy areas to spawn. Fall is also productive as they aggressively feed before winter. For bank access, try exploring the Croton Dam area on the Muskegon, or smaller local lakes like Grant or Townline Lake. A local tip: Pike in these waters respond well to large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits retrieved erratically near weed edges. Don't be afraid to experiment with bright colors, especially in stained water conditions. The pike here aren't giants, averaging 2-5 pounds, but their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights make for exciting fishing.
