Northern Pike

Cheboygan, Michigan offers fantastic Northern Pike fishing, primarily due to its proximity to the Inland Waterway. This unique chain of lakes and rivers, including the Cheboygan River, Mullett Lake, and Burt Lake, provides diverse habitat for pike to thrive. Spring is prime time, just after ice-out, as pike move into shallow, weedy bays to spawn. Fall is also excellent as they aggressively feed before winter. For shore access, try casting from the piers along the Cheboygan River near downtown. If you have a boat, explore the weed beds and drop-offs in Mullett Lake; a good starting point is the public access site on the south shore. Remember that pike in this region can be quite large; be prepared with heavier tackle and steel leaders. Also, be mindful of navigation hazards in the Inland Waterway, especially in areas with shallow water and submerged vegetation.
