Northern Pike

If you're on the hunt for Northern Pike in the Daggett, Michigan area, the Menominee River and its associated backwaters offer some exciting possibilities. While the area isn't known as a pike mecca, the river's diverse structure and abundant forage provide suitable habitat for these predators. Spring and fall are the prime times to target pike, as they move into shallower areas to spawn and feed. Focus your efforts on weedy bays, flooded timber, and areas near creek mouths. A key tip for this location: target areas where the river widens and slows down, as these often hold the most pike. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective lure choices. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs. While trophy-sized pike may be less common here than in some other U.P. locations, the chance to catch a respectable fish in a beautiful and relatively uncrowded setting makes it a worthwhile trip.
