Northern Pike

Northern pike fishing around Farwell offers excellent opportunities in the numerous lakes and flowages dotting the landscape. Wixom Lake and Secord Lake, both part of the Tittabawassee River system, are known pike hotspots. Spring, just after ice-out, and fall, when water temperatures cool, are the most productive times. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective for covering water and triggering strikes. Dead bait presentations can also be productive, especially in deeper water. A local tip: pike in this area often relate to weed beds, so focus your efforts on areas with healthy vegetation. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs. The pike here are known for their ambush tactics, so be prepared for explosive strikes!
