Northern Pike

Northern Pike fishing around Galien, Michigan, presents a unique opportunity to target these ambush predators in smaller, more secluded waters. While the area isn't known for monster pike, the Galien River and the many small lakes and ponds dotting the landscape hold respectable populations of these toothy critters. Spring, right after ice-out, is an excellent time to target pike as they move into shallow weedy areas to spawn. Fall, as the water cools, is another peak period when pike actively feed to prepare for winter. Consider using weedless lures like spinnerbaits or weedless spoons, as the vegetation can be dense. Local anglers often have success with large shiners fished under a bobber near weed edges. Be mindful of the river's flow, as it can fluctuate after heavy rains. Access to some of the smaller lakes may require a small boat or kayak.
