Northern Pike

Targeting Northern Pike around Hudsonville, Michigan, can be a rewarding experience, especially in the Grand River watershed. Connected lakes and backwaters of the Grand provide excellent habitat for these ambush predators. Spring, just after the ice melts, is a particularly good time, as the pike move into shallow weedy areas to spawn. Fall is another productive period as they fatten up for winter. A local trick is to use large spinnerbaits or spoons in these weedy areas, focusing on the edges of weed beds. Pike in this area can be quite aggressive, but also wary of pressured spots. Many boat launches are available along the Grand River, but be prepared for some current and potential navigation hazards. The pike population here is healthy, with opportunities to catch some surprisingly large fish.
