Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike near Lake Odessa, you're in luck – the area's many lakes and the Flat River provide ample habitat. Pike patrol these waters, especially areas with dense weed growth, waiting to ambush prey. Spring (April-May) as the ice melts and fall (September-October) when water temperatures cool are prime times. Pike are aggressive ambush predators, so large lures like spoons, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits work well. Don't be afraid to use brightly colored lures in murky water. A local tip: the shallow, weedy bays of Jordan Lake, just north of Lake Odessa, are known pike hotspots. Use a steel leader to prevent bite-offs, as pike have razor-sharp teeth. Be prepared for some exciting topwater action in the early morning or late evening during the summer. Handle pike with care, as they can be feisty and have a mouthful of teeth.
