Northern Pike

Le Roy, Michigan, is a great place to target Northern Pike in its many lakes and flowages. These aggressive predators thrive in the weedy environments found throughout the region. Spring is an excellent time to target pike as they move into shallow bays to spawn, and again in the fall as they actively feed before winter. Look for them around weed edges, submerged timber, and near creek mouths. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and jerkbaits are effective lure choices. Don't be afraid to use a wire leader, as pike have sharp teeth. A practical tip: Many of the lakes in the area have public access points, but some can be shallow and require careful navigation with larger boats. Also, be aware that pike often ambush prey from cover, so target areas with dense vegetation. The local pike population tends to be healthy, with opportunities to catch fish of various sizes.
