Northern Pike

Looking to tangle with some Northern Pike near Mayville, Michigan? Focus your efforts on the Cass River and connected backwaters or smaller lakes in the surrounding area. Pike fishing peaks in the spring, right after ice-out, as they move into shallow weedy areas to spawn. Fall is also productive as they feed heavily before winter. Try casting large spoons, spinnerbaits, or crankbaits around weed beds and submerged timber. A steel leader is a must, as pike have sharp teeth! Access to the Cass River is available at several road crossings and parks. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate, affecting fish location and accessibility.
