Northern Pike

Rose City and the surrounding area offer some classic northern Michigan pike fishing. The many inland lakes, such as Peach Lake and Clear Lake, are great places to start. These lakes have plenty of weed beds and submerged structure that pike love to ambush prey from. Spring and fall are traditionally the best times, as water temperatures cool and pike become more active. However, you can still find success during the summer months by targeting deeper weed lines and drop-offs. Local anglers often have success trolling large spoons or crankbaits along weed edges. Live bait, such as large shiners or suckers, fished under a bobber near weed beds can also be very effective. Be aware that some of the smaller lakes have limited boat access, so a smaller boat or kayak may be necessary. Also, always check local regulations for size and possession limits, as they can vary from lake to lake.
