Northern Pike

If you're looking for some toothy action in West Michigan, the waters around Rothbury offer some excellent Northern Pike fishing opportunities. Focus your efforts on the White River, especially the stretch between Rothbury and where it empties into White Lake. Pike here tend to congregate around submerged timber, weed beds, and drop-offs. Spring and fall are prime times, as pike are more active in cooler water temperatures. Early ice fishing on White Lake can also be very productive. A local tip: White Lake can get quite choppy with wind, so pay attention to the weather forecast before heading out. Also, the boat launch at the mouth of the White River provides easy access to both the river and the lake. Pike in this region average 2-5 pounds, but larger specimens are caught every year, so be prepared with heavier tackle and steel leaders.
