Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike in the Saginaw area, you're in for a treat. The Saginaw River and its connected waterways offer excellent habitat for these ambush predators. Spring is prime time, as pike move into the shallows to spawn. Focus on backwaters, weed beds, and areas with submerged timber. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are all effective, but don't be afraid to throw a large swimbait to entice a truly massive pike. Local tip: Pike in the Saginaw River are often found near areas with current breaks. Pay attention to where the river bends or where tributaries enter. Also, be mindful of the changing water levels, which can impact fish location. There are numerous public access points along the river, including several parks with boat launches.
