Northern Pike

If you're targeting Northern Pike near Grosse Pointe Shores, Lake St. Clair is your playground. This lake is renowned for its musky fishing, but don't underestimate the pike population! They thrive in the weedy bays and channels that surround the area. Early spring, just after ice-out, and late fall are the peak seasons. During these times, pike are actively feeding in preparation for spawning or winter. Large spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and jerkbaits are all effective, especially those with flashy colors. Dead bait rigs can also produce results, especially when fished near the bottom. A good starting point is the area around the mouth of the Clinton River, which offers plenty of pike habitat. Be aware that Lake St. Clair can get rough quickly, so always check the marine forecast before heading out. Launching from a public ramp in Grosse Pointe Shores provides easy access to the lake, but be prepared for potential crowds, especially on weekends.
