Northern Pike

Northern Pike fishing near Wolverine, Michigan, centers around the Inland Waterway. Burt and Mullett Lakes, along with the Indian River connecting them, offer excellent pike habitat. Spring, right after ice-out, is a prime time as pike are aggressive and feeding in the shallows. Fall, as water temperatures cool, is another excellent window. Look for pike near weed edges, submerged timber, and points. A productive technique is trolling large crankbaits or using live bait rigs. Be prepared for some sizable fish; the pike in this area can reach impressive sizes. A local tip: the Indian River can be surprisingly productive, especially in areas with current breaks and overhanging vegetation. Public access is available at several boat launches along the lakes and river, but be aware that Burt and Mullett can get busy during peak season.
