Northern Pike

Looking to tangle with some Northern Pike in southwest Missouri? While not as famous as some northern fisheries, the waters around Duquesne offer a surprising opportunity. Focus your efforts on the Spring River and Shoal Creek, especially during the cooler months. Pike become more active in the fall (October-November) as water temperatures drop, and again in early spring (March-April) before spawning. These waterways offer good bank access in certain areas, but a small boat or kayak will significantly expand your reach. Target submerged timber, weed beds, and creek mouths where pike ambush prey. Local tip: Pike in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders, so try large, flashy lures like spoons, spinnerbaits, or crankbaits. Don't be afraid to experiment with retrieve speeds. Be prepared for some rocky conditions while wading!
