Northern Pike

While the Lake of the Ozarks is more renowned for bass and crappie, dedicated anglers can find Northern Pike near Linn Creek with some targeted effort. Pike are not as abundant here as in more northern climates, but they are present, particularly in the more riverine portions of the lake and in the larger creek arms. Focus your efforts in the early spring, just after ice-out (if applicable), or in the fall as water temperatures cool. Target areas with dense vegetation, submerged timber, and creek inlets where pike can ambush prey. Larger swimbaits, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are effective choices. A key tip is to use a wire leader to prevent pike from biting through your line. Explore the upper reaches of the Gravois Arm or the Niangua Arm for better pike opportunities. Be prepared to cover water and experiment with different presentations to find active fish.
