Smallmouth Bass

Linn Creek provides anglers with easy access to Lake of the Ozarks, a fantastic destination for Smallmouth Bass. While largemouth get most of the attention, the lake holds a healthy population of smallies, particularly in areas with rocky structure and clearer water. Focus your efforts on points, bluffs, and submerged rock piles, especially in the lower portions of the lake closer to Bagnell Dam. Spring and fall are peak seasons, as smallmouth move shallow to spawn and feed aggressively. Summer can also be productive by targeting deeper structure with drop-shot rigs or Carolina rigs. A local's secret is to fish around the numerous docks, especially those with deep water access. Smallmouth often use these docks as ambush points. Use crayfish-imitating lures or tubes for best results. While not as numerous as largemouth, the smallmouth in Lake of the Ozarks can reach impressive sizes, making it a worthwhile pursuit for any angler.
