Northern Pike

Northern Pike fishing near Marblehead, Ohio, offers a unique freshwater angling experience. While not as abundant as walleye, pike can be found in the weedy bays and nearshore areas of Lake Erie and its tributaries. Look for them in Sandusky Bay, especially around the edges of weed beds and near submerged structure. Spring, just after ice-out, and fall are the best times to target pike, as they move into shallower waters to spawn and feed. Large spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and swimbaits are effective lures. A local tip: focus your efforts around areas with a mix of open water and dense vegetation. Pike are ambush predators, so they'll be lurking in the weeds waiting for unsuspecting prey. While the pike population in this area may not be as large as in other regions, the chance to land a trophy-sized fish makes it a worthwhile pursuit. Remember to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs from their sharp teeth.
