Northern Pike

While not as abundant as other species, Northern Pike can be found in the deeper pools and backwaters of the Monongahela River near Bentleyville. Targeting them requires a different approach. Spring (March-April) just after ice-out, and fall (October-November) as water temperatures cool, are the peak seasons. Pike often lurk in weedy areas or near submerged structure, waiting to ambush prey. Large spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and crankbaits are effective lures. Some anglers also have success with dead bait fished on the bottom. Access to the Monongahela River is available at several public boat ramps around Bentleyville. Be mindful of the river's current and potential for debris, especially after periods of heavy rain. Local pike aren't generally huge, but they can provide exciting action. Focus your efforts on areas with dense cover and slower-moving water.
