Targeting northern pike near Torrington, Wyoming requires a bit of a road trip, but the reward can be worth it. Glendo Reservoir, about an hour and a half drive west, is a well-known pike fishery. Pike prefer cooler water, so spring (especially after ice-out) and fall are the best times to target them. Large swimbaits, spoons, and jerkbaits are popular lures, and a steel leader is essential to prevent bite-offs. Glendo can get windy, so be sure to check the weather forecast before heading out. There are several boat ramps around the reservoir, but they can get busy on weekends. The pike in Glendo are known to be aggressive, and some real trophies are caught each year. Be prepared for a good fight!
