Rainbow Trout

Rainbow trout abound in the Eagle River and its tributaries near Eagle, Colorado, providing ample opportunities for anglers of all skill levels. The river's diverse structure, from fast-moving riffles to deep pools, creates ideal habitat. Spring and early summer are productive due to runoff, but fishing remains good throughout the summer and into the fall. Dry-fly fishing can be exceptional during hatches, especially with mayfly and caddis patterns. Nymphing is also highly effective, particularly with bead-head nymphs and emergers. For larger rainbows, try streamers in the deeper runs. Public access is available along much of the Eagle River, with several parking areas and trails. The section near Wolcott is particularly popular. Rainbows in this area are generally healthy and eager to take a well-presented fly.
