Rainbow Trout

Rainbow Trout are a popular target in the Woodland Park, Colorado area, and for good reason. Several streams and reservoirs offer excellent opportunities. The South Platte River, especially sections near Deckers and Cheesman Canyon (though a bit of a drive), is renowned for its trout fishing. Closer to Woodland Park, try fishing in Rampart Reservoir or explore some of the smaller creeks and streams in the surrounding national forest. Fly fishing is very popular here, with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers all producing results. Spring and fall are generally considered the best times to fish, as the water temperatures are more moderate. A helpful tip: be sure to check the Colorado Parks and Wildlife fishing regulations before you go, as some areas may have special restrictions or catch-and-release rules. Also, be prepared for crowds, especially on weekends, and practice Leave No Trace principles to help preserve these beautiful fishing spots.
