While not as renowned as some other areas in the state, Amsterdam, NY, does offer some opportunities for rainbow trout fishing. Stocked sections of the Schoharie Creek, accessible within a reasonable drive, can be a good starting point. Spring and fall are the ideal times to target rainbows, especially after stocking. These fish are often eager to take a variety of baits and lures. Smaller streams that feed into the Mohawk River may also hold some wild or holdover rainbows.
