Rainbow Trout

While East Williston might not be the first place that springs to mind for trout fishing, the local freshwater streams and ponds, though often small, can offer surprisingly good rainbow trout opportunities. These fish are often stocked, so check local DEC stocking reports before you go. Spring and fall are prime times. Spring sees the stocked trout actively feeding, while fall brings cooler water temperatures that invigorate the fish before winter. Access to these spots can be limited. Often, you'll be looking at small, roadside pull-offs or walking trails that lead to the water. Be mindful of private property. A local tip: small spinners and brightly colored baits often work well in these smaller waters. The rainbows here aren't known for their size, typically running in the 10-14 inch range, but they can provide a fun, close-to-home fishing experience.
