Rainbow Trout

The streams surrounding Fleischmanns offer classic Catskills trout fishing, and that includes rainbow trout. The East Branch of the Delaware River, easily accessible from town, is a well-known trout stream with wild and stocked rainbows. Spring and fall are ideal times to target these fish, particularly during and after periods of rain when the water is slightly higher and stained. Nymphing is a popular and effective technique here, but dry fly fishing can also be productive, especially during hatches. Be aware of the special regulations that apply to different sections of the East Branch, including catch-and-release areas and gear restrictions. The rainbows here can be selective, so it pays to experiment with different fly patterns and sizes. Also, be mindful of wading safety, as the river can have strong currents and slippery rocks.
