Rainbow Trout

While Fultonville isn't a renowned rainbow trout destination, determined anglers can find opportunities in some of the smaller tributaries that feed into the Mohawk River. These streams are often stocked, offering a chance to catch rainbows. Spring (April-May) immediately after stocking is the most reliable time, as the trout are still acclimating and more easily caught. Fall (September-October) can also be productive as water temperatures cool down. Small spinners, spoons, and live bait are effective. A key to success in these smaller streams is stealth. Approach the water quietly and fish upstream, casting into pools and runs. Public access may be limited, so be sure to research stream access points and regulations before heading out.
