For rainbow trout enthusiasts visiting Interlaken, the surrounding Finger Lakes tributaries offer some excellent fishing. While Cayuga Lake holds a population of rainbows, the smaller streams that feed into it are where you'll find more consistent action. Spring and fall are the prime seasons, as rainbows migrate upstream to spawn or stage for the winter. Salmon Creek, for example, is a known spot. Nymphing with small patterns or swinging streamers can be effective techniques. Be prepared for some challenging wading conditions, as the streams can be rocky and swift. A practical tip is to target areas with deep pools and undercut banks, as these provide refuge for the trout. Also, be mindful of private property and ensure you have permission to fish on posted land. The rainbows in these streams tend to be wary, so stealth and accurate casting are essential for success. Consider using a longer rod for better line control.
