Rainbow Trout

While Sodus Bay itself isn't the primary destination for Rainbow Trout, its proximity to Lake Ontario means opportunities abound. These trout often stage just outside the bay in the colder months, and tributary streams entering the lake nearby can offer excellent fishing during the spring and fall spawning runs. Pier fishing at Sodus Point can be productive in the spring as rainbows follow baitfish. Spoons and spinners are effective lures, and drifting egg sacs or nymphs can also be successful in the streams. Remember to check the regulations for specific stream closures and gear restrictions. A practical tip is to pay attention to wind direction. A sustained wind blowing into the bay can push warmer water out and bring in colder, trout-friendly water closer to shore.
