Rainbow Trout

While Elk Mound isn't a renowned trout destination, determined anglers can find Rainbow Trout opportunities in the surrounding streams. The Eau Galle River, a short drive southeast, is a viable option, though populations are generally sustained through stocking. Spring and early summer, following stocking, offer the best chances. Later in the year, focus on cooler, shaded sections of the stream. Small spinners, worms, and trout magnets are effective. Remember to check the Wisconsin DNR's stocking reports for the most up-to-date information. Also, be mindful of private property boundaries; many streams flow through private land, so obtain permission where necessary. Access to the Eau Galle is available at several roadside pull-offs, but parking can be limited.
