Rainbow Trout

While Footville isn't necessarily known as a trout mecca, persistent anglers can find some rainbow trout fishing opportunities. Specifically, focus on the small, spring-fed streams that feed into the larger rivers in the area. These streams are often stocked, providing a chance to catch stocked rainbows. Spring and fall are the best times to target these fish, when water temperatures are cooler. Fly fishing with dry flies or nymphs can be effective, as can spin fishing with small spinners or spoons. Remember to check the Wisconsin DNR stocking reports to see where trout have been recently released. Access to these streams can sometimes be limited to road crossings or public lands, so be sure to respect private property. Local Tip: Early morning or late evening are typically the best times to fish for trout in these smaller streams, as the fish are more active when the light is low.
