Rainbow Trout

While Fremont isn't widely known as a trout hotspot, the nearby Waupaca River and some of its tributaries offer opportunities for rainbow trout fishing. These smaller streams provide a more intimate fishing experience compared to larger rivers. Spring and fall are the best times to target rainbows, as they are more active in cooler water temperatures. Look for deeper pools, undercut banks, and areas with riffles and runs. Fly fishing with nymphs and dry flies can be very effective, as can using small spinners or spoons. Access to these streams is often available through public lands or with landowner permission. Be sure to check local regulations regarding trout fishing seasons and size limits. A practical tip: stealth is key when fishing these smaller streams. Approach the water carefully and avoid making noise to avoid spooking the fish. While the rainbows in these streams may not be huge, they offer a challenging and rewarding fishing experience in a beautiful natural setting.
