Rainbow Trout

While Necedah might not be the first place that comes to mind for trout, the surrounding area does offer some limited rainbow trout fishing. Smaller, spring-fed creeks and streams that feed into the larger rivers can hold stocked or even naturally reproducing populations. The best time to target rainbows here is in the spring and fall when water temperatures are cooler. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the most productive times. Look for deeper pools and areas with cover, such as undercut banks and fallen logs. A stealthy approach is key, as these trout can be easily spooked. Try using small spinners or flies that imitate local insects. Access to some of these streams can be challenging, often requiring some hiking. Consult local maps and DNR resources to identify public access points. Be aware of specific regulations regarding trout fishing in these smaller streams, as they may differ from general regulations.
