Rainbow Trout

Oconomowoc Lake is not typically known as a premier trout fishery, but the Wisconsin DNR occasionally stocks rainbow trout to supplement the existing fish population and provide additional angling opportunities. The best time to target these stocked rainbows is in the spring, shortly after stocking, and again in the fall when water temperatures cool. Look for them near areas where the lake is stocked, often around deeper sections or near inlets where cooler water enters. Trolling small spoons or spinners can be effective, as can casting small jigs or using live bait like worms or waxworms under a bobber. Keep in mind that rainbow trout prefer cooler water, so focus your efforts in deeper areas during the warmer months. Check the Wisconsin DNR stocking reports to see when and where trout have been recently released into Oconomowoc Lake.
