Rainbow Trout

While Pigeon Falls isn't exactly a rainbow trout mecca, you can find some surprisingly good fishing in the area's smaller streams. The Trempealeau River itself isn't ideal for rainbows, but some of its tributaries, like Beaver Creek, are stocked regularly and hold a decent population of these fish. Spring and fall are the best times to target rainbows, especially after a rain when the water is slightly elevated and the fish are more active. Small spinners, spoons, and live bait like worms or salmon eggs can be effective. Fly fishing with nymphs or small dry flies can also produce results. These streams are generally small and easily waded, but be mindful of private property and respect landowners' rights. A local tip: Check the Wisconsin DNR stocking reports to find the most recently stocked streams. The rainbows here are typically stocked fish, but they can provide a fun and accessible trout fishing experience.
