Rainbow Trout

While not a renowned trout destination, the Plainfield area does offer some opportunities for Rainbow Trout anglers. Small, spring-fed creeks and streams in the surrounding county can hold decent populations of rainbows, often stocked annually by the DNR. These fish aren't likely to be huge, but they can provide some exciting light-tackle fishing. Early spring, right after stocking, and the cooler days of fall are generally the most productive times. A stealthy approach is key, as these fish are easily spooked in the clear, shallow waters. Consider using small spinners, nymphs, or dry flies. Local tip: Check the DNR stocking reports to find the most recently stocked streams and access points. Remember to obtain the necessary trout stamp before fishing.
