Rainbow Trout

While Pound, Wisconsin, isn't exactly known as a trout mecca, there are opportunities for Rainbow Trout within a reasonable drive. Several smaller streams in Marinette County, particularly those that are spring-fed, are stocked with Rainbows. The Oconto River and its tributaries, further west of Pound, offer the most promising options. Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) are prime times to fish for these stocked trout, as water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Check the Wisconsin DNR's stocking reports to see where recent releases have occurred. A practical tip: Smaller, more secluded stretches often hold more fish and less pressure. Light tackle and small spinners or flies are generally effective. Don't expect trophy-sized fish; most stocked rainbows will be in the 8-12 inch range, but they can provide fun action on light gear. Remember to check regulations for specific streams, as some may have special restrictions.
