Rainbow Trout

For Rainbow Trout enthusiasts, Reedsburg, Wisconsin, presents some excellent opportunities, particularly in the Baraboo River and its tributaries. These waterways offer a classic trout stream experience, with riffles, runs, and pools that hold wild and stocked rainbows. Spring and fall are prime times to target these fish, as water temperatures are ideal and the trout are actively feeding. Early morning and late evening are often the most productive periods. Access to the Baraboo River is relatively easy, with several public access points and bridge crossings along County Highway W. Be aware that wading can be challenging in some areas due to slippery rocks, so felt-soled boots are recommended. The Rainbow Trout in this area tend to be on the smaller side, but what they lack in size, they make up for in fight. Also, check the WDNR's stocking reports to find recently stocked locations for a better chance of success.
