Rainbow Trout

While Sullivan isn't widely known for its trout fishing, the area does offer some opportunities for rainbow trout, primarily through stocking programs in local streams like the Scuppernong River. The best time to target these fish is in the spring, shortly after stocking, or in the fall when the water cools down. Look for deeper pools and runs where the trout tend to congregate. Small spinners, worms, and trout magnets are effective baits. Remember to check the Wisconsin DNR stocking reports to find out where and when recent stockings have occurred. Also, be aware of any special regulations on specific sections of the river, such as catch-and-release only areas. The rainbows here may not be trophy-sized, but they offer a fun fishing experience in a scenic setting.
