Rainbow Trout

Tomahawk, Wisconsin, offers some excellent opportunities for rainbow trout fishing, particularly in the smaller streams and rivers that feed into the larger lakes. While not as widely known as some of the western trout fisheries, these waters hold a surprising number of wild and stocked rainbows. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, as water temperatures are cooler and the trout are more active. Early morning and late evening are often the most productive times of day. Focus on areas with riffles, runs, and pools, where trout can find food and shelter. Fly fishing is popular, but spinners and small spoons can also be effective. Remember to check the local regulations for specific stream closures and size limits. Access to some of these streams can be challenging, so be prepared for some hiking. A local tip: Pay attention to insect hatches and try to match your fly or lure to what the trout are feeding on.
