Sailfish

Miami Beach is a fantastic starting point for pursuing sailfish in the Atlantic. The proximity to the Gulf Stream makes it a prime location, particularly during the winter months (November to April) when sailfish migrate south. The key is to find the edge of the Gulf Stream where the warmer water meets the cooler Atlantic waters. Look for temperature breaks and areas with abundant baitfish. Trolling with dead bait, such as ballyhoo, is a common and effective technique. Kite fishing is also very popular, allowing you to present baits naturally on the surface. A local tip is to use a sea anchor to slow your drift and keep your baits in the strike zone longer. Sailfish are catch-and-release only in Florida, so be sure to handle them carefully and revive them properly before releasing. The sailfish fishery off Miami Beach is well-managed, offering anglers a good chance at hooking these iconic sportfish.
