Smallmouth Bass

While Island Park is primarily known for its trout fishing, some of the surrounding waters hold populations of smallmouth bass. Henrys Lake, despite its reputation for trout, can offer some decent smallmouth fishing in the warmer months. Look for rocky shorelines and submerged structure where smallmouth tend to congregate. Summer is the best time to target them, as the water temperatures rise and the fish become more active. A local tip: Try using crankbaits and tube jigs around rocky points and drop-offs. Smallmouth bass fishing isn't the main draw to Island Park, so don't expect trophy-sized fish or high numbers. However, it can provide a fun alternative to trout fishing, especially on warmer days when the trout fishing is slower. Access to Henrys Lake is good, with several boat ramps and public access points.
