Smallmouth Bass

Brookville Lake and the Whitewater River offer some exciting smallmouth bass fishing opportunities. While Brookville Lake is better known for its largemouth and crappie, the rocky shorelines and submerged structure hold a decent population of smallmouth, especially near the dam. The Whitewater River, however, is a true gem for bronzeback enthusiasts. Focus your efforts on the rocky riffles, runs, and pools, particularly upstream from Brookville. Summer and early fall are ideal, as the water levels stabilize and the smallmouth become more active. Throw crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or tubes along the rocky banks and in the deeper pools. For the river, wading is a popular method, allowing you to cover more ground. Be mindful of water levels, especially after heavy rains. Local tip: targeting areas with current breaks or submerged boulders can be highly productive. Smallmouth in this region are known for their aggressive strikes, so be prepared for a good fight!
