Smallmouth Bass

While East Bethel is perhaps better known for Largemouth Bass, dedicated anglers can find Smallmouth Bass in some of the area's clear, deeper lakes and connecting river systems. The Rum River, which flows through the region, holds a decent population of smallmouth, especially in areas with rocky bottoms and faster currents. Look for smallmouth near bridge pilings, rocky points, and submerged logs. Late spring and early fall are generally the best times to target them, as water temperatures are more favorable. Try using crankbaits, tube jigs, and spinnerbaits to entice strikes. Fly fishing with streamers can also be effective. Access to the Rum River is available at various public access points along its course. Be aware of changing water levels, especially after heavy rains, as this can impact water clarity and fishing conditions. Target the clearer water sections for the best results.
