Smallmouth Bass

While Andover, NJ, may be better known for its largemouth bass, don't overlook the smallmouth bass fishing opportunities in the area's rivers and lakes. The Musconetcong River, in particular, offers some excellent smallmouth habitat. Look for rocky areas, riffles, and deeper pools. Summer and fall are generally the best times to target smallmouth, as the water temperatures are more stable and the fish are actively feeding. One effective technique is to use crankbaits or tube baits to target smallmouth in the river's rocky sections. Topwater lures can also be productive in the early morning or late evening. Be aware that the Musconetcong can be wadable in some areas, but caution is advised due to slippery rocks and varying water depths. Smallmouth in the Musconetcong are known for their fighting ability, making for a challenging and rewarding fishing experience.
